On March 4, 2014, Chanel's Karl Lagerfeld transformed the Grand Palais in Paris into a supermarket stage, with rows of shelves filled to the brim with Chanel-branded consumables and household staples. Models both walked the runway clad in colorful threads and hues and also enacted "shopping" the Chanel market with Chanel-emblazoned shopping carts. Some of the collection was designed to elicit nostalgia, including the "candy" costume jewelry reminiscent of the pastel-hued tart sugary treats strung together on white elastic that children nibbled off their wrists in the 1970s and 80s. This collection presented on this day would become one of fashion history's iconic moments.
